Recommended Fabrics
Canvas, Linen, and Denim fabrics are excellent for slipcovers. Most home décor fabrics and matelassé fabrics work well. Slipcovers can also be made from painters’ drop cloths. Fabrics should ideally be between 7 – 12 oz weight. Anything higher will be too thick to drape properly. Upholstery weight material is not suitable for slipcovers, nor is slippery, stretchy or quilting fabrics such as calicos. Prewash your fabric in 6-8 yd increments in hot water and dry on high. Promptly remove from dryer and fold to eliminate wrinkles. Most fabrics can be washed. I find that 'dry clean recommended' is washable most of the time. For ‘dry clean only’ fabrics, wash a small piece to see how it turns out.

For solid colors, duck canvas or denim in a 10 oz weight are the best. Anything heavier, is stiff and hard to iron. Here are links to the best places to order these that I've found:
